From April 4th to 15th, 2023, The Mill Adelaide hosted the "Surviving the Sunset" fundraising art exhibition, organized by the Australian Myanmar Institute for Democracy, Human Rights and Peace (AMIDHRP) and Amnesty International Australia SA/NT.
The theme "Surviving the Sunset" refers to the current situation in Myanmar, where the military-led junta known as the Tatmadaw overthrew the democratically elected government. This theme alludes to the need for the people of Myanmar to overcome the "sunset" of democracy in their country and to restore human rights and peace.
Both Organizations have strengthened their partnership and agreed to continue working collaboratively to develop various projects to help support democracy, human rights, and peace in Myanmar.
Through this joint event, the Institute is able to support the Kind Heart Foundation with a donation towards their charity work in Australia and Myanmar under the aegis of Dr. Thinn Thinn Khine. The artworks in the main were sourced from members of the Myanmar community both in Australia and Myanmar.
Thanks to Dr. Thinn Thinn Khine, and Ms. LuLu Htet for their major contributions to Myanmar artworks, and massive indebted to Ms. Adelaide Xerri, President, Amnesty International, and all the work that has been done behind the scenes by the team at The Mill in Adelaide.
