Open Letter to the Generals of Myanmar

The Australia Myanmar Institute for Democracy, Human Rights and Peace demands that Myanmar military junta, that has illegally taken power, cease their criminal and terrorist actions against the peaceful Civil Disobedience Movement and restore power to the rightfully elected democratic government of Myanmar.  Your coup de tat is irrelevant and not recognised in Myanmar and in the international community it has no legitimacy!

The world is watching as the senior general and his officers and troops allow the country to degenerate into chaos with protests and strikes and mass killings of its citizens.  The Junta have created this situation of political instability and their brutal actions, which are crimes against humanity, will ultimately be paraded in the international courts of justice.

We ask that all military officers and soldiers put down their weapons, walk away from the illegal war on your own people and go back to your homes and families if necessary. If you do not do this and keep supporting the military, you will be classified as war criminals. The people of the towns and cities of Myanmar have mobile phone camera images of all military personnel who have committed atrocities against the people and justice will be served against these people in the near future. You are asked not to side with these criminal military and police personnel as you will be judged as equally to blame.

If you take the course, we recommend you will be regarded as heroes. Walk away from your positions in the army and police. Refuse to shoot anyone. Aim into the air to avoid loss of life. Better still walk out of your barracks and return to your families and ask the military leaders to step aside. They cannot shoot all 500,000 military personnel for desertion as there will be nobody left to do it!

If you do not do as we suggest Myanmar will degenerate into further chaos. The economy will completely fail, and it is close to this already, and all people will suffer greatly into the future including all military personnel.

The international courts of justice are already getting ready to prosecute those who have committed crimes against humanity in Myanmar and the generals are at the top of the list. Walk away from the Junta. Save yourself and you families. Return democracy and justice to Myanmar.
