Today, on International Mother Language Day, the Australia Myanmar Institute for Democracy, Human Rights and Peace (AMIDHRP) proudly joins communities worldwide in celebrating the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that defines our shared humanity.

Language is more than a tool for communication—it is a foundation of identity, history, and self-expression. For many communities, particularly those from Myanmar and the broader diaspora, language is also a symbol of resilience in the face of oppression. The protection and promotion of mother languages are crucial to preserving cultural heritage, ensuring inclusivity, and upholding fundamental human rights.

As an organization committed to democracy, human rights, and peace, we reaffirm our support for linguistic rights and the freedom of all communities to use, teach, and pass down their native languages without fear of discrimination. We stand with ethnic groups in Myanmar and around the world who continue to defend their linguistic and cultural rights despite challenges and restrictions.

On this day, let us honor the beauty of our diverse languages, advocate for education policies that promote multilingual learning, and work together to build societies where every language is valued and protected.

Happy International Mother Language Day!
